Don’t set yourself & your Goals up for failure!
One of the biggest mistakes people make when setting a new year’s resolution is by going all in and producing a massive goal they hope to achieve without any sort of actionable steps to get there.
Woah slow down and take a step back!
It’s amazing that you want to push yourself extra hard and aim for the stars but if you start with smaller goals you are way more likely to achieve and succeed. Don’t worry those smaller goals are going to get you to your end-goal!
Success is more attainable by completing smaller goals that eventually lead to your # 1 goal!
Rather than saying my New Years Resolution this year is to get healthy and lose weight, take a step back. Start with one attainable step at a time. Our bodies are a creature of habit and our brains are formulated to crave those unhealthy foods we have grown to love. We need to build ourselves up through smaller goals to reach that big end game!
Knock off small goals to build your way to the end goal!
Find an Accountability Partner to help you Conquer your Goals!!!
This is probably the most important way to help you achieve your goals, and I’m not just talking New Years Resolutions here. I’m talking about all the goals, I’m talking about making your dreams come true! I’m talking about finding others just like you! Your people, your person!

I achieve way more when I’m able to share my successes with other people who are going through the same thing.
For example, most of my friends don’t really care that I spent 20 hours working on a post that has a mail form, automation with a freebie, awesome new graphics, the right backlinks, monetization possibilities etc…
Are you still with me?!?
No? That’s ok! Neither was my husband. I love Josh to bits and pieces but he sure as hell has no idea what I’m talking about when it comes to blogging.
BUT…. my accountability peeps sure the hell do! Those are my people! The ones with the same goals, the same niche of aspirations! The same dreams they want to come true! They get it because they are in it too!
Find Your People!

This really should be everyone’s first step to achieving their goal! Get it on paper, digital copy, notebook, whatever, but write down your goals! I cannot emphasize this enough! WRITE THEM DOWN!
Put It On Paper! Make Actionable Steps & Succeed!
When you write down your goals you are almost 50% more likely to achieve those goals! Now, I don’t just mean grabbing a paper and jotting down your new goal. No, I mean actually writing down actionable steps to achieve this goal in its entirety. Well thought out constructive steps that are going to help you sail your way to achievement!
Having a goal in your mind is just that, it’s in your mind. The first step to making it a reality is making it a physical reality by giving it substance in your writing.

Personally, I love to write down new ‘goals’ every single day on a little to-do list. One day a week I also write down the goals I hope to achieve and every month I write down the goals for the next month. Having these on paper gives me the satisfaction of checking them off as I go. I love this method so much that I decided I needed to share it with you too!
The feeling of achieving these small tasks gives you the confidence to keep going and moving towards your end goal!
Listen to a Kickass Podcast!
Now, I can’t lie, until recently I had never even listened to a podcast. Yep, I live under a freaking rock haha. Since I finally replaced my iPhone I started to make use of the preloaded podcast app. And Holy Hannah, what an incredible world I have been missing!
I’m totally hooked on Jenna Kutcher’s Goal Digger podcast right now. I love listening to it for inspiration while I’m putting my hours into the blog every morning. It reminds me that you can achieve anything if you just put your mind to it and of course, work your ass off!
Whatever mojo you need for whatever goal you have there is bound to be a kickass podcast out there waiting for you!

Think S.M.A.R.T to Successfully Conquer Your Goals!
Remembering the 5 key acronyms for SMART is a great way to keep yourself on track with setting and achieving your goals. This is one of the most successful ways to attain your goals.

Be Specific, Clear & Concise About Your Goals
You need to be specific in choosing your goals. If it is a huge goal you need to break it down into smaller tasks (I like to call these mini-goals). Who benefits from this goal? What do you hope to achieve at the end of this goal?
Ensure to Set Measurable Boundaries
The goal needs to be measurable. You need to know how much, how many or some measurable way to indicate that you achieved one of your goals.
Set Achievable Goals
Whatever goal you choose you must remember that your goals need to be achievable! Do you have the ability to attain this goal? What will you need to make sure you succeed? Accountability partners are great for helping you brainstorm ways to make your goals achievable!

Be Realistic When Setting Goals
Are your goals realistic (relevant)? You need to make sure that you are setting yourself up for a goal that you can achieve. That doesn’t mean that you can’t aim for the moon, it just means you might fall among the stars if you’re not realistic. If you ask me that is still an amazing feat! By breaking down those huge goals into smaller realistic ones though, we can work far better towards achieving those dreams!
Goals Must Be Time-Bound
Your goals need to be timely, they need to have a start date and they need to have an end date. Ensure that you leave enough time to prepare to start your goals. You should start to work out your goals and the steps leading to its success prior to your start date. Your goals end date should provide enough time to successfully achieve your expectations.
One of my favourite points in the accompanying post to this video is that you should not set goals that you have no power over. Don’t set yourself up for failure by setting goals that you have no control over the outcome!
Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant & Timely
Beware setting goals that someone else has power over. For example, “Get that promotion!” depends on who else applies, and on the recruiter’s decision. But “Get the experience and training that I need to be considered for that promotion” is entirely down to you.
Find Motivation In Your Surroundings!
First off, you need to start with a clean slate. Reduce clutter whether it be in your mind, in your home, or on your digital devices. By reducing clutter and getting organized we reduce distractions and increase productivity.
Get Organized with One of the Best Planners!

There is nothing that drives me crazier than when I’m on a roll and whipping up a new post but my camera roll is full or my computer is overloaded with downloads I have yet to delete.
If the house is a mess you can bet you will lose focus and struggle to achieve your daily tasks towards your end goal. Reducing clutter in your home and work area will help keep your brain from trailing off on the work that needs to be done that has nothing to do with obtaining your goals.
Add motivational quotes to your home decor. It can be as simple as a coffee mug or extravagant as a beautiful handmade sign. Whatever you choose to be your motivation, display it where you can see it every day!
Pin your favourite quotes on Pinterest! I love to pin my favourite quotes and check them out when I need a good laugh or a little motivation! This is a great way to pump yourself back up when you’re feeling down!
Helping Others Succeed & Conquer Your Goals
I wrote this in a Facebook group the other day when someone mentioned they were not able to achieve their goals for 2019. Perhaps that is what inspired me to write this post and make this workbook.
If we don’t try, we can not fail. If we stop trying then we fail. It can only go up from here.
Jenn Summers
It’s hard to know that you gave it your best shot but did not succeed. It is so easy to fall into the pit of despair and feel like you failed. But you did not fail! Maybe you didn’t achieve those goals but you put yourself out there and you tried.
You Only Fail When You Stop Trying!

She is so awesome! Best of luck in 2020, you’ve got this!
This is a great post! I am a goal setter but then I Peter put because I get overwhelmed. This process will be very helpful to those of us that like to accomplish things but sometimes lose the energy. Thank you Jenn!
Yay! I’m so happy to hear you say this. That is exactly what I hope to achieve with the new group!
Just grabbed my copy of the workbook. Exactly what I was looking for to kick-start my 2020 goals. Thanks! 🙂
Welcome on board, Elzette! I can’t wait to help you reach your goals!
Just sent a request to join the FB group. I have so many things I want to do this year. I need both motivation and accountability. ?
I’m so excited for you to join us, Valerie! Here’s to a great year of reaching our goals!
Accountability is what always works for me. I have to shout out my goals loud and proud so that I don’t get lazy or back out when it gets hard – because it always does. I try to have no less than 2 accountability partners who share a similar goal. Doesn’t have to be exactly the same, but it helps if it’s in the same niche. Great tips. Pinned this one for later.
Thanks so much, Jen! Yes for sure I have a few different accountability partners myself. It helps to have someone who is focused on the same thing as you are to brainstorm and reach your achievements. Thanks so much for coming!
Lots of great info here! I’m pinning your post so I can come back over the weekend and read through it again. I’m excited for 2020! I’ve got my goals written down. I’ve got my planner going. I’m working on my vision board. I’ve got a word and symbol For the year. Let’s do this!
Yay, Cindy! I love that you are roaring to go! This is going to be an amazing year for you, I can feel it!
Wow! So many great tips here and such a motivating, uplifting perspective. Thank you so much for sharing all these incredible tips! I think what speaks loudest to me is the reality that starting with smaller, actionable goals sets us up for success. ❤️
Thank you, Rose! Writing this post and setting up the group made me realize this is my passion! I want to help others succeed. My version of success for myself is helping others get to the top and be motivated. your words make me feel like I’m heading in the right direction. Thank you ever so much!
So true! You only fail when you stop trying!!! I love it!
